Perspective of Duality

IIn this series, decorative pattern becomes both a mask and a point of entry. I build dense ornamental surfaces—often drawing from traditions such as Arabic pattern-making—that attract the eye while carrying traces of violence, consumption, and decay. Beauty functions as both invitation and distraction, shaping how attention moves across the image.

Titles such as Underneath and Behind Pattern point to my interest in the relationship between appearance and what lies beyond it. I am less interested in exposing a hidden truth than in examining how surfaces influence what can be seen, ignored, remembered, or forgotten. The pattern does not simply conceal; it also reveals, directing the viewer's attention while withholding complete resolution.

The work lingers in the moment when ornament begins to shift into something else—when a decorative surface no longer feels innocent, and what first appears beautiful gradually settles into a more complicated reality.
